Green Technology : Learning From Past- Alhambra



Most famous Islamic Architecture that embodies the philosophies and integration of sustainable development without neglecting nature element can be look into design of Alhambra.

Built by Nasrid emirate of Granada(1228-1482),
the complex was built with plans to accommodate 6 palaces, 2 tower and numerous bathhouse. The irrigation system which design to irrigate the plateau eventually become a unique landmark where the garden such as Jannatul Arif (Generalife), Court of the Lions and Court of Myrtles. Interestingly, the basic scheme of Alhambra which built by successive ruler follow one basic plan; Paradise garden
with 4 river, fruits within easy reach of hand and fragrance plants.

Also the water that part of irrigation system also symbolise the importance of the ruler: The aim of the pools was to give the impression that the pool had mystical powers because it never evaporated, making them form a good opinion of their leader.
