Japanese park designer returns to Shah Alam
The man who designed the Shah Alam Lake Garden will be making a trip back to the recreational park this month in conjunction with its 25th anniversary.
Fumiaki Takano, the principal designer of the 51.4ha park, will attend a symposium dubbed Tasik Shah Alam 2010 to share stories about its concept and design.
Organised by the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), the event will also have architecture professior from the University of California Galen Cranz and Shah Alam Park Trust member Datuk Mohamed Ishak Mohamed Ariff to present keynote addresses.
Their topics are History of Urban Parks and Sustainable Landscape, and Shah Alam Lake Garden — Its Idea, Vision and Tree Selection, respectively.
About 10 papers will also be presented by local speakers during the symposium to be held at the Shah Alam Convention Centre on June 17 and 18.
Shah Alam mayor Datuk Mazalan Md Noor said the event was aimed at sharing the history, concept and direction of the park.
“The history of the garden should be documented to pass on its unique vision and concept.
“The professional views in landscaping and garden mangement are essential for the MBSA to improve its efficiency in mantaining our green heritage,” he said.
A visit to Setia Eco Park, Cahaya SPK, Bukit Jelutong and Shah Alam Lake Garden is scheduled on June 16 while the state and private agencies will be taking part in an exposition of landscaping and gardening items from June 17 to 20.
Island and Peninsular Group, Sime Darby, One World Group, Hicom Gamuda Development, Bandar Setia Eco Park, Sazean Development and Steadler Marketing are the sponsors of the event.
Participation fees are RM750 or RM250 for students.
